PERSONAL

Boudoir is Porn.

April 8, 2018

I saw something online the other day and I just wanted to fire back “Uhm, no!!!!!” It wasn’t on my pages, but it easily could have been. Another boudoir photographer had posted a beautiful image on their page and one of the comments read something to the effect of

“OMG, this is practically porn”

The comment has since been removed from the image, either by the photographer or the person who posted the comment, but it got me thinking, why do people associate boudoir with porn?

When I started my photography business, I was inspired by beauty. Not perfectly photoshopped and airbrushed beauty, but the beauty that I see in every person. When I capture an image and give my clients a quick look and I see their face light up like;

“Oh my gosh, that’s me? I look amazing!”

…that right there is why I wanted to be a photographer. I love encouraging people, making them feel special and beautiful. I love capturing that joy, that strength, that love. It’s an amazing feeling.

First off; NO I do not believe boudoir is porn, and no it’s not just because people pay me to take photos of them. It’s because what I offer is more than just some sexy photos – it’s an entire experience that allows women to truly feel sexy and empowered in their own skin. I offer women a safe place to experience this amazing transformation where they’ve gone from being unsure, vulnerable and shy, to confident and strong in just a short time. I offer a place where women can embrace themselves, leaving my studio feeling confident in their body.

So again, why do people associate boudoir with porn?

Pornography, in my opinion, exploits women. When the word porn comes to my mind, it makes me think of fully nude films where actual sexual acts are occurring. The goal of porn is to, essentially, help people “get off”.

The idea that boudoir is like porn, I think stems from the fact that a lot of clients who choose to do a boudoir session, do them with the intention of giving their photos to their significant others, many times as a wedding gift for their new husband. While that may be the gift in the end, the gift is really to the women who book a boudoir session, because they walk away with a new love for themselves and a new confidence in their step!

Boudoir is about helping women build confidence!

…and maybe helping two people in a loving relationship see a new side of themselves, or their partner. Boudoir doesn’t have to be for anyone but the person in the session. Boudoir can be a gift for whoever you choose to share it with. The goal, for me, is to empower women. To help them love themselves in their own skin. If you’re on the fence about boudoir, I feel you, because I was nervous too.

Come on over to the YES side and book a session!
