Getting Naked with Boudoir

May 2, 2018

As a photographer, I invest myself into the moments I capture. I fall in love with my couples, I want to dance to “Welcome to New York” with your kids, I want to snuggle all the babies and I want to feel all the feels. As someone who has always struggled with self love, I know how difficult it is to get in front of the camera. I also know how amazing it feels to see a photo of yourself and think

“Damn, I look amazing!”

That feeling is what inspired me to start my photography business almost 4 years ago, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

Boudoir photography is such a beautiful experience, and I do not take this job lightly. I know how hard it is to trust someone with such an intimate, vulnerable experience. I know how intimidating it is to stand in front of a camera wearing things not everyone sees. I know how critical women can be to themselves because there’s some part of your body you aren’t happy with.

Boudoir is scary and vulnerable. I can’t sugar coat that for you. I wish I could, but it’s the simple truth. You’re going to be wearing very little clothing while someone you may or may not know is taking photos of you. So, naturally, you’re going to have questions about this experience, and wonder if it’s right for you.

Let me calm that anxiety, empower that vulnerability, and answer a few questions you may have about

The Boudoir Experience

Where does the session take place?

As of May 15, 2018, my Boudoir Studio is open for business. I have a corner studio in Sanger where you’ll have a safe, comfortable space for your boudoir session. If your collection includes hair and makeup, we’ll meet here for the stylist to doll you up. Then we’ll talk about your outfit choices and start shooting!

My door is always locked during sessions, and the curtains will keep anyone from seeing inside, while still letting in beautiful, natural light. The studio is also is a very low traffic location, so you’ll feel completely safe and comfortable.

Do I need to buy new lingerie?

You don’t need to, but it sure is a great excuse right? I do have some pieces in my studio closet you can use to help complete your looks.

So…do you wash the items in your boudoir closet?

YES! Every item is taken out of commission once it’s been worn, and taken to the dry cleaners before it goes back in the closet. When you’re wearing closet pieces, I do ask that you keep at least a thong on underneath (like trying on swimsuits at Target). Items I do not keep in the closet include panties and bodysuits. All closet clothing is looser fitted for maintaining sanitation.

Will you share my images?

No, not if you don’t want me to. As I said above, you do have to sign a release which acknowledges that you’ve allowed me to take these images of you. On this release, you’ll check which level of sharing you’re comfortable with, if any at all. You’ll sign two copies, one for me, and one for you. I will never, ever share any images without your express written permission.

What if I don’t like a part of my body?

When I say everyBODY is beautiful, I mean it from the bottom of my heart. I also get it, I don’t like my stomach. So during my boudoir session, I kept that covered with sweaters or babydolls. And my photographer posed me so that wasn’t front and center of the shots. If there is any part of your body you don’t totally love, tell me. I want to make sure you love your images, and I can work around keeping it sexy, while still masking some areas you may not want to show off.

What should I wear?

Saying “It’s up to you” isn’t super helpful, but it is totally up to you! Are you more of a tee shirt and booty shorts gal? Great! Bring some of your SO’s favorite work shirts, sports jerseys and some matching panties and we’ll kill it. Want to go all out with garter belts, chokers and gloves, girl I am game! Do you prefer destroyed denim jeans, lace bras and a flannel, bring it on girlfriend. However you feel most sexy, we’ll work together to create beautiful looks your S.O. will look at and jaw drop…or just make you feel amazing whether you share them or not.

I’m not a professional model. How do I pose?

What? You’re not a professional model? Well that’s great, because boudoir is for YOU! Boudoir is for real women and I know you’re not a professional model. I give you direction and feedback the entire time so we’re capturing beautiful images and you’re feeling good about everything

I need to lose weight first.

First off, no you don’t. That’s really just an excuse for putting off your session. I thought the same thing, so I scheduled my session probably 4 months in advanced and maybe lost 10 pounds, when I wanted to lose more like 40 before I did my session. But guess what? My photos were still amazing, my husband still loved them and I remember how amazing I felt during my session and that self love lives on people.

Do I have to sign a model release?

Yes and no. I require every client to sign a release stating they have permitted me to take their photos, but you do not have to allow me permission to share them. I understand how intimate and personal this experience is, and you can choose what level of sharing you’re comfortable with.

Is hair and makeup provided?

YES! I have 3 options for boudoir and two include hair and makeup, but you can add hair and makeup for $100.

Do I have to get naked?

Of course not, but you can. We’ll shoot whatever you’re comfortable with. If you’d rather stick to flannel shirts, oversized sweaters and booty shorts, that is totally fine. And if you want to show a little more skin, that’s fine too. I aim for tasteful images, so whichever direction you choose, you’ll feel sexy and beautiful no matter how much, or how little, you choose to wear.

How soon do I need to book?

You should book at least 2 months in advanced. Because I shoot more than just boudoir, if you’re thinking about booking, the sooner the better. Currently, I am booking sessions as far as 4 months out. Typically I’m booked full so I can’t accept month of bookings, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.

When will I receive my images?

If you’re working with a deadline (like an anniversary, wedding, birthday, etc.) you should try and plan ahead. Once you’ve completed your session, the editing process takes 3-4 weeks. If you’re ordering prints, tack on about 3-5 business days. If you’re ordering an album, tack on 1-3 weeks.

How are my images delivered?

All images are delivered in a private, password protected online gallery. You will be given a download PIN to download individual images, just your favs, or the whole gallery! For your protection, I only keep Boudoir Galleries active for 6 months, plenty of time for you to download your images and purchase any prints or albums.

If your session includes a “Little Black Book”, we’ll send you a design proof link with your gallery delivery. The design approval process is up to you – the quicker you request changes and approve layouts, the sooner we can place your order. Once the final album is approved, your album will arrive within 3-5 business days. You can pick up your album at the studio, or we can arrange to meet for delivery.
